Happy New Year

January 1, 2012

What an incredible year 2011 was! All across Canada, millions of steps were taken by kids dedicated to improving their health, both day-to-day and during our first cross-Canada race from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Now it's 2012 and you better hold onto your hats! Things are going to get even more exciting at WeMuv with a whole new site and many more activities in the works. We're going to be moving in even greater numbers and engaging in lots of fun competitions -- which will come as music to the ears of parents, if a recent study in Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine is to be believed.

"The more physical activity a child engages in," says the study, "the better their performance at school. At least, that’s the suggestion from a new review of previously published research looking at the relationship between academic performance and exercise in children. Exercise may help children’s thinking by increasing blood and oxygen flow to the brain. It may also help by increasing levels of norepinephrine and endorphins to decrease stress and improve mood, and increasing growth factors that help create new nerve cells and support synaptic plasticity."

So as we start another year, let's take heart that getting active with WeMuv isn't just fun, it's also good for you!

Happy New Year!
